Korea Quality Re-Rating Watch Sep 30: Gigavis, Seegene, Korea Kolmar

KOSPI -2.6% over five days as KOSDAQ gains 2.6%; Gigavis, Seegene, and Korea Kolmar top today's quality re-rating screener with multi-signal confirmation.

Regime: KR Neutral (shadow signal: Bear, one confirmation short of flip), US Bull. Recommended stance: selective US expansion. The 5.1pp spread between KOSPI and KOSDAQ over the past five sessions is the week’s clearest divergence signal — large-cap benchmarks drifted while small/mid-cap names held. KRW firmed modestly (-0.6%) and Brent’s -6.4% five-day drop removes one inflation input from the near-term macro equation.

Market Wrap

September 30 delivered a bifurcated session. Of 2,571 tracked KOSPI and KOSDAQ names, decliners (1,273) outnumbered advancers (1,020), yet the average price change was only +0.04% — losses were concentrated in heavy-weight index constituents, not the broader tape. The ADR proxy at 80.1 and KOSDAQ’s sustained outperformance confirm that domestic momentum is narrower and more thematic than the headline KOSPI print suggests.

Financials under coordinated pressure. Foreign investors sold Shinhan Financial (055550.KS, -3.98%), Woori Financial (316140.KS, -4.12%), and Hyundai Motor (005380.KS, -1.43%). Institutions reinforced the move, selling KB Financial (105560.KS, -2.71%), Hana Financial (086790.KS, -3.92%), and Samsung Life (032830.KS, -2.93%). When foreign and institutional flows align on the sell side in the same sector, that is a signal worth noting rather than fading.

Energy and clean-energy caught inbound flows. HD Hyundai Energy Solutions (322000.KS, +5.77%) and Hanwha Solutions (009830.KS, +4.31%) led the foreign net-buy list. SK Innovation (096770.KS, +1.99%) also attracted foreign interest. Institutions joined in on Hanwha Solutions and added Hansol Chemical (014680.KS, +4.66%), HPSP (403870.KQ, +4.43%), and a standout print in Hanon Systems (018880.KS, +10.00%). The energy and thermal-management theme running through these names reflects global positioning around oil at $97 and ongoing power-infrastructure demand.

Derivatives and passive flow data confirm noise in the signal. Market program flows registered -1.241 trillion KRW and ETF net creation was -1.273 trillion KRW, with open interest falling 4,019 contracts. Futures basis held at +9.68. The overall read: month-end systematic selling and passive redemptions are compressing the large-cap indices, masking what is in fact a relatively resilient underlying tape.

Session character: Selective rotation — out of financials, into energy and specialized industrials. The KOSPI/KOSDAQ divergence story is now five sessions old and has not reversed.

Today’s Quality Re-Rating Candidates

Today’s screener intersection analysis returned no 2+ screener overlaps (only the PEAD screener was available for cross-source intersection). The KR Meta Screener — which integrates quality fundamentals, institutional money flow, cycle re-rating, consensus revisions, and official DART catalyst events — is therefore the primary ranking source. All scores below are from the KR Meta Screener as of 2026-09-30.

Top 3 Examined

1. Gigavis (420770.KQ) — Meta Rank #1

Gigavis manufactures automated optical inspection (AOI) equipment for semiconductor and PCB production lines. Six independent evidence families fire simultaneously today: Quality Compounder (ROE 7.3%, operating profit +777% YoY), Cycle Rerating (margin +29.9pp), PEAD, Consensus Up revision (composite z-score +0.75), Kiwoom market surface, and an official DART contract filing dated September 15. The stock trades 33.9% below its 52-week high, leaving re-rating room. The consensus upgrade is the differentiating factor at rank #1 — the market is formally lifting earnings expectations on top of an already strong operating beat. Next check: whether the September contract is a recurring frame agreement or a one-off order; structural vs. cycle-driven margin question.

2. Seegene (096530.KQ) — Meta Rank #3

Seegene is a molecular diagnostics company specializing in multiplex PCR testing. Three layers stack cleanly. Quality: operating profit +309.7% YoY, margin +11.3pp, ROE 4.8% and recovering. Money flow: foreign and qualified-institutional buyers absorbed 11.69 billion KRW net over five days against 9.38 billion KRW of retail supply — a textbook accumulation pattern. Re-rating: the company declared an interim dividend (DART filing 20260928), signaling management confidence in cash generation. The caution is short interest at 7.1% with foreign ownership already at 22.4%, which creates overhang if conviction fades. Next check: dividend sustainability; whether institutional buying is benchmark-driven or thesis-driven.

3. Korea Kolmar (161890.KS) — Meta Rank #4

Korea Kolmar is one of Korea’s largest cosmetics OEM/ODM manufacturers. The company filed two IR notices today (DART 20260930), including one IR opening announcement — active communication just ahead of what may be a guidance or capacity update. Fundamentals: ROE 14.7%, operating profit +23.6% YoY, margin +0.9pp. Foreign ownership at 41.1%, with foreigners absorbing 18.68 billion KRW of retail supply over five days. The caution is a same-day unconfirmed-rumor clarification filing alongside the IR notice — the nature of that rumor warrants verification before treating the IR as a clean catalyst. Short interest at 10.6% adds to the friction. Next check: content of today’s IR announcement; what the rumor filing concerns; OEM margin durability given KRW volatility.
