Market Wrap
Source: KR Market Snapshot DB (2026-10-26). No same-day full close briefing was generated; this section draws from the close-of-day market database.
October 26 was a broad selloff with little place to hide. Of 2,593 tracked Korean equities, 1,928 declined and only 447 advanced — an ADR proxy of 23.2% and an average stock return of −1.75%. That is bear-market breadth, not selective sector rotation.
The headline KOSPI/KOSDAQ divergence carries the week’s clearest signal. KOSPI is down 1.5% over five sessions; KOSDAQ is down 7.0%. The gap points to sustained selling in small- and mid-cap growth: semiconductor equipment, KOSDAQ tech hardware, and select consumer names absorbed the heaviest damage. Large-cap defensives and IT services held comparatively better.
Passive outflows amplified the pressure. ETF net redemptions totaled −₩1.18 trillion, with market program net selling at −₩527bn. The futures basis sat at −1.51 — deeply negative — flagging limited demand for leveraged index exposure.
Foreign flow was fragmented. Foreigners net-bought into weakness on 두산 (000150.KS, −6.5%), S-Oil (010950.KS, −3.6%), NAVER (035420.KS, +0.4%), and 삼성E&A (028050.KS). They were net sellers across financials — BNK금융지주 (138930.KS, −13.8%), KB금융 (105560.KS, −3.8%), 우리금융지주 (316140.KS, −2.8%) — and sold out of 삼성에스디에스 (018260.KS) and LG씨엔에스 (064400.KS) in IT services.
Institutions moved in the opposite direction on those IT services names, net-buying 삼성에스디에스, LG씨엔에스, 삼성생명 (032830.KS), and 삼성물산 (028260.KS) while foreigners sold. Domestic institutions absorbing foreign supply in large-cap IT services was one of the few conviction flows on the session. Elsewhere, institutions sold cyclicals and energy: 한화솔루션 (009830.KS, −6.9%), 피에스케이 (319660.KS, −7.2%), 삼양식품 (003230.KS, −8.9%), and HPSP (403870.KQ, −5.9%).
The overall character: risk-off, broad-based, and KOSDAQ-led. Semiconductor equipment, regional banks, energy, and consumer discretionary absorbed the brunt. The session was not selective — it was a tide going out.
Today’s Quality Re-Rating Candidates
Source: KR Meta Screener (2026-10-26, all screener sources fresh). The Screener Intersection Summary included only PEAD for today’s raw-overlap table and returned no 2+ screener matches; the Meta Screener synthesizes quality, smart money, cycle rerating, earnings, consensus revision, RS80, and official DART signals across a 111-ticker candidate universe.
Despite the broad selloff, the meta screener surfaces names where institutional and foreign capital is entering against retail supply — the exact setup this framework is designed to flag.

Top 3 in Focus
Samsung BioLogics (207940.KS) — Meta Rank #1 Korea’s largest contract drug manufacturer. The meta screener ranks it first not on the Quality Compounder signal alone, but because all five independent evidence families are firing together: the earnings-cycle axis (OPM expanded 7.6pp to 45.4%), PEAD (price still adjusting to the last earnings print), smart money quality (foreigners and quality institutions net-bought ₩125bn over five days while retail distributed ₩84bn), and DART filings (three insider ownership reports filed Oct 26). The key question to verify next: whether the operating margin expansion reflects structural capacity-utilization improvement in biologics CDMO contracts, or a one-period mix shift.
TFE (425420.KQ) — Meta Rank #2 A semiconductor and display equipment components maker that clears every primary screen simultaneously — the only name in the top-10 with Quality Compounder, Cycle Rerating, Smart Money Quality, and Smart Money Earnings all active. Operating profit grew 334% YoY with margin expanding 11.1pp; ROE stands at 16.6%. Foreign and quality institutional investors net-bought ₩24bn against retail selling ₩38bn over five days. Its raw meta score (77.6) is the highest in the table; the family-adjusted score (49.3) is lower because the scoring caps same-family evidence to avoid double-counting correlated signals. Next check: determine whether the earnings base was abnormally depressed a year ago, or whether the margin inflection reflects a durable product-mix or utilization shift.
Korea Cosmetics Manufacturing (003350.KS) — Meta Rank #6, three primary signals active An OEM/ODM cosmetics formulator running the highest ROE in the top-10 at 30.6%. Operating profit grew 24.2% YoY with 2pp of margin expansion, and smart money is net-buying over five days (F+QI +₩31bn vs retail −₩27bn). Like TFE, it clears all three primary screens: Quality Compounder, Cycle Rerating, and Smart Money Quality — which is why it deserves attention above its raw rank of sixth. One caution flags in the DART overlay: a convertible-right exercise was filed on Oct 7, classified as a risk disclosure. The next check is whether the potential dilution is material relative to the earnings trajectory that drove the screener inclusion.
