&lt;li&gt;The strongest bear case is that AI demand keeps growing, but the moment its &lt;strong&gt;growth rate passes its peak&lt;/strong&gt;, supply, depreciation and the cost of capital all rise together, normalizing price, margin, ROIC and multiples.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;The most likely path right now is a blend. &lt;strong&gt;The industry can be a bull while the stock is a valuation bear&lt;/strong&gt; (55% probability). &lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Industry&lt;/strong&gt;: Is long-term demand for AI compute and memory growing?&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Corporate earnings&lt;/strong&gt;: Are today&amp;rsquo;s suppliers sustaining high prices and margins on that demand?&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Stock price&lt;/strong&gt;: How much of future earnings and risk does the current price already reflect?&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Portfolio&lt;/strong&gt;: Even for a good company, is holding more of it the right call given current concentration and cash levels?&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ol&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The fact that &amp;ldquo;AI demand is strong&amp;rdquo; answers the industry question but not the stock-price or portfolio questions. Conversely, the fact that &amp;ldquo;SOXX has sold off sharply&amp;rdquo; speaks to stock-price timing but does not by itself prove that industry demand has collapsed.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Without this distinction, bulls buy a good industry at any price, and bears declare the industry over after a single sharp down day.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Scope note&lt;/strong&gt;: The core scope of this post is AI-driven memory, leading-edge foundry, advanced packaging, AI fabless, and the related networking equipment and materials. &lt;p&gt;When the price and investment clocks run ahead while the construction and monetization clocks lag, &lt;strong&gt;strong earnings and CAPEX upgrades can actually become reasons to sell.&lt;/strong&gt; The market is looking past current profit to future idle capacity, depreciation, debt and the ROI gap.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Conversely, when the four clocks converge, the bull case resumes. That happens when announced gigawatts convert into actual power interconnection and GPU utilization, AI gross-profit growth overtakes depreciation and interest expense, and customer pre-buying is consumed as actual usage rather than sitting in inventory.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This framework explains questions that otherwise seem disconnected. Why does the stock fall when earnings are good? Why is the customer&amp;rsquo;s stock weak even as CAPEX rises? Why do equipment stocks roll over first even amid a supply shortage?&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;hr&gt;
&lt;h2 id="3-the-common-premises-bull-and-bear-share"&gt;3. The Common Premises Bull and Bear Share
&lt;/h2&gt;&lt;p&gt;Sophisticated bulls and bears broadly agree on the following facts.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ol&gt;
&lt;li&gt;AI training and inference demand is real today.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Physical bottlenecks exist in leading-edge process nodes, HBM, advanced packaging, and power and networking.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Supply-chain earnings are likely to be strong in 2026-2027.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Stock prices look first at the rate of change in earnings estimates and the next supply phase, ahead of absolute results.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Not every semiconductor company benefits equally.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;A good industry and good buy timing are not the same thing.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ol&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The dispute between the two sides is therefore not whether demand exists, but &lt;strong&gt;the duration and quality of that demand, the speed of the supply response, the profitability of incremental revenue, and current valuation and positioning&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;hr&gt;
&lt;h1 id="part-i-the-bull-case"&gt;Part I. The Bull Case
&lt;/h1&gt;
 &lt;blockquote&gt;
 &lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;As AI becomes not just one software feature but the new default layer of all computing, demand for compute, memory capacity, bandwidth, networking and power all rise together. Supply cannot keep pace immediately because of the long lead times in fabs, packaging, power and customer qualification, and an oligopoly of suppliers combined with long-term contracts builds a higher floor and a longer duration under profits than in the past.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The core of the bull case is not that prices accelerate forever. It is that even as the rate of price increase slows, a combination of a higher ASP than in the past, a premium mix, volume visibility and capital discipline can enlarge the &lt;strong&gt;total area under the profit curve&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h3 id="4-demand-is-being-verified-through-physical-orders-not-announcements"&gt;4. Demand Is Being Verified Through Physical Orders, Not Announcements
&lt;/h3&gt;&lt;p&gt;The most important takeaway from TSMC&amp;rsquo;s 2Q26 call is not the long-term optimistic commentary but the &lt;strong&gt;actual change in CAPEX and capacity allocation&lt;/strong&gt;. [Fact/Grade B: cross-checked call-relay materials and multiple research notes, with some limits on direct comparison against the official IR transcript]&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Raised FY2026 revenue growth guidance to 40%+&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Raised 2026 CAPEX guidance to $60-64bn&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Described a wide supply-demand gap in N3-and-below leading-edge process and advanced packaging&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Said it does not simply sum up customer orders but verifies data center location, construction progress, power procurement and rack installation&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This combination undermines the weak bear case that orders are &amp;ldquo;phantom&amp;rdquo; or that AI demand is entirely double-ordering. TSMC&amp;rsquo;s decisions to buy equipment and build fabs are difficult to make without long-term demand signals, upfront payments and co-development roadmaps from customers.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Dell and HPE naming DRAM and NAND as the number-one constraint on server supply, and Teradyne confirming strong second-half demand for HBM and DRAM testing, point the same way. [Fact/Grade C-B: broker channel check] Demand is not confined to slides; it shows up in server shipments, memory allocation, and test-equipment and packaging capacity.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Bull&amp;rsquo;s read&lt;/strong&gt;: The most important evidence for AI demand is not the revenue outlook, but the fact that suppliers are committing &lt;strong&gt;capital that is hard to reverse&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Falsification condition&lt;/strong&gt;: Hyperscalers actually cut CAPEX. TSMC and memory makers delay equipment move-in and fab ramps. Customer contract delays and falling utilization appear at the same time.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h3 id="5-demand-is-spreading-from-a-single-gpu-category-to-the-entire-server-bom"&gt;5. Demand Is Spreading From a Single GPU Category to the Entire Server BOM
&lt;/h3&gt;&lt;p&gt;Early AI investment was concentrated in GPUs and HBM, but as scale grows, the bottleneck shifts to CPUs, networking, storage, power management, substrates and passive components.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Agentic AI uses CPU, memory, networking and storage simultaneously, not just GPUs.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Large-scale inference raises the demand for KV cache and memory bandwidth.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;As scaling moves from scale-up to scale-out and scale-across, demand for high-speed switches, optical communications and coherent connections increases.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;eSSDs, power-management ICs, MLCCs, and ABF/CCL/high-layer-count PCBs in AI data centers become the lagging bottleneck.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p&gt;So even if NVIDIA&amp;rsquo;s growth rate alone slows, the total addressable market for AI semiconductors can widen into other components. In-house ASICs don&amp;rsquo;t fully undercut this logic either. TPU and Trainium can lower GPU&amp;rsquo;s share, but they still consume leading-edge process, HBM or high-performance DRAM, advanced packaging, and networking.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Bull&amp;rsquo;s read&lt;/strong&gt;: AI investment is evolving from a GPU cycle into an &lt;strong&gt;AI data center BOM cycle&lt;/strong&gt;. Leadership can change, but total demand for silicon, memory and packaging holds up.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Falsification condition&lt;/strong&gt;: Efficiency gains raise throughput while dollar spending on servers, memory and networking declines, and this pattern repeats across multiple customers.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h3 id="6-hbm-is-a-product-that-erodes-its-own-supply"&gt;6. HBM Is a Product That Erodes Its Own Supply
&lt;/h3&gt;&lt;p&gt;HBM requires more wafer area, TSV and stacking, packaging, testing, and customer qualification. As the HBM mix rises, the number of bits producible from the same wafer input falls, and commodity DRAM capacity is constrained as well.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This creates two bullish effects. First, HBM supply itself is hard to expand quickly. Second, the shift toward HBM reduces the effective supply of commodity DRAM, supporting server DRAM and general DRAM prices together.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;New fabs don&amp;rsquo;t turn into supply the moment they&amp;rsquo;re announced, either. Power, water, cleanrooms, equipment installation, process ramp, yield and customer qualification are all needed in sequence. There is a lag before SK Hynix&amp;rsquo;s Y1 and the new facilities at Samsung Electronics and Micron contribute real bit supply.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Bull&amp;rsquo;s read&lt;/strong&gt;: The scarcity in this cycle is a &lt;strong&gt;compound shortage that simultaneously requires good wafers, high-yield stacking, qualified packaging and customer certification&lt;/strong&gt;. That is why simply throwing money at it doesn&amp;rsquo;t resolve it immediately.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Falsification condition&lt;/strong&gt;: HBM yield and packaging productivity rise faster than expected, and customer qualification at Samsung Electronics and Micron converts into large-scale volume, so that the supply growth rate overtakes demand.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h3 id="7-oligopoly-and-long-term-contracts-may-reduce-the-amplitude-of-the-cycle"&gt;7. Oligopoly and Long-Term Contracts May Reduce the Amplitude of the Cycle
&lt;/h3&gt;&lt;p&gt;The memory industry has fewer suppliers than in the past, and HBM involves deep customer-specific co-development and qualification. LTAs mean giving up part of the upside from a spot-price spike, but they raise volume visibility, customer lock-in, and confidence to invest.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Past cycles followed a pattern where suppliers expanded capacity in reaction to spot prices, customers built up inventory, and prices then collapsed. If long-term contracts include minimum volumes, price-adjustment formulas and take-or-pay features, &lt;strong&gt;the peak of profit may be lower, but the floor and the duration can both be higher.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;What the bull is buying is not the assumption that &amp;ldquo;prices keep rising faster,&amp;rdquo; but that &amp;ldquo;high profits last longer.&amp;rdquo;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Key unverified item&lt;/strong&gt;: The price floors and ceilings, minimum volumes, renegotiation terms and cancellation clauses of LTAs are mostly undisclosed. LTAs should not be elevated to an unconditional profit guarantee. [Blocked]&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h3 id="8-the-moat-in-leading-edge-process-lies-in-the-learning-curve-not-the-equipment"&gt;8. The Moat in Leading-Edge Process Lies in the Learning Curve, Not the Equipment
&lt;/h3&gt;&lt;p&gt;TSMC Chairman C.C. Wei&amp;rsquo;s remark that &amp;ldquo;choosing a foundry is not like picking milk at a convenience store&amp;rdquo; precisely captures the switching cost of leading-edge process.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Customers spend years alongside a foundry through process selection, PDK and IP design, test chips, joint optimization, yield learning, capacity securing, and volume production. Owning the same ASML equipment does not make a customer switch immediately. Advanced packaging likewise requires solving substrate, thermal, power, signal integrity and test issues together.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Bull&amp;rsquo;s read&lt;/strong&gt;: Leading-edge semiconductors may look like a commodity, but customer switching costs and joint learning mean they are not a true commodity. Even as supply expands, the excess return of a proven leader can persist longer than expected. In a period of shortage, customers choose &lt;strong&gt;the supplier that holds to schedule and yield&lt;/strong&gt; over the cheapest one.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h3 id="9-power-and-permitting-shortages-may-delay-demand-without-destroying-it"&gt;9. Power and Permitting Shortages May Delay Demand Without Destroying It
&lt;/h3&gt;&lt;p&gt;Delays in power interconnection and data center construction are a core bear argument. But the bull reads this not as an absence of demand but as a &lt;strong&gt;backlog waiting to come online&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Operators that have secured power, land, substations and cooling hold a scarce asset. As long as demand holds, construction delays are more likely to show up as pushed-out delivery dates and price premiums than as order cancellations. TSMC&amp;rsquo;s statement that it checks customers&amp;rsquo; data center locations and power procurement is at least evidence that the construction clock for its top-tier customers has not fully stopped.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Bull&amp;rsquo;s condition&lt;/strong&gt;: Delayed projects must not be cancelled but must come online in sequence, and once live, must translate into high utilization and cloud revenue.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h3 id="10-chinas-pursuit-is-a-commodity-risk-but-unlikely-to-replace-the-frontier-in-the-near-term"&gt;10. China&amp;rsquo;s Pursuit Is a Commodity Risk but Unlikely to Replace the Frontier in the Near Term
&lt;/h3&gt;&lt;p&gt;CXMT&amp;rsquo;s IPO and large-scale capital raise represent a medium-to-long-term risk to commodity DRAM supply. But HBM, leading-edge process and advanced packaging carry barriers in yield, equipment, materials, the design ecosystem and customer qualification.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;US equipment restrictions on China and discussions of purchase limits on CXMT and YMTC may slow Chinese vendors&amp;rsquo; global customer expansion and strengthen the ex-China market position of Korean, US and Taiwanese suppliers.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Bull&amp;rsquo;s read&lt;/strong&gt;: Chinese supply is less a matter of &amp;ldquo;an HBM collapse today&amp;rdquo; than a &lt;strong&gt;&amp;ldquo;ceiling on commodity DRAM prices after 2028&amp;rdquo;&lt;/strong&gt; issue. The technology and qualification lag is too long to undermine the near-term bull case.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h3 id="11-hard-export-data-confirms-the-strength"&gt;11. Hard Export Data Confirms the Strength
&lt;/h3&gt;&lt;p&gt;In Korea Customs&amp;rsquo; preliminary figures for July 1-10, 2026, semiconductor exports were strong at $11.2bn. The baseline-adjusted HBM proxy within June&amp;rsquo;s Korea-to-Taiwan DRAM/HBM exports also held a constructive signal. [Fact/Grade A-B: official Korea Customs data, proxy is medium]&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This data does not directly prove company-level HBM revenue, but it at least rebuts the claim that Korean semiconductor shipment momentum has abruptly rolled over.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Caution&lt;/strong&gt;: The 10-day preliminary figure is an early-warning signal. It should not be elevated into a long-term thesis before item- and company-level attribution and the month-end base effect are confirmed.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h3 id="12-a-low-multiple-may-already-reflect-partial-earnings-normalization"&gt;12. A Low Multiple May Already Reflect Partial Earnings Normalization
&lt;/h3&gt;&lt;p&gt;Memory stocks are an industry that gets a low P/E at peak earnings. A low P/E is therefore not, on its own, evidence of cheapness. But if the market is over-discounting the durability of 2027 earnings and the real earnings floor turns out to be higher than in the past, the stock can rise through &lt;strong&gt;multiple normalization&lt;/strong&gt; even without further EPS growth.&lt;/p&gt;
