Regime: Korea Neutral (raw Bull; 1 of 2 confirmations met — upgrade pending), US Bull. Tactical stance: selectively expanding US exposure. Korea passive flow is supportive: ETF net creation +₩1.86 trillion, futures basis +2.59, open interest expanding (+2,072 contracts).

2. Market Wrap

Same-day KR close briefing is unavailable for Sep 9. The following draws on the macro-regime snapshot.

Korea equities posted a strong five-session run through Sep 9. KOSPI added 472 points (+7.2%) to 7,051.6, and KOSDAQ gained 5.1% to 830.4. The won strengthened nearly 1.5% against the dollar to 1,338 — a signal of favorable external balances and a supportive backdrop for inflows.

Passive-flow data reinforces the bullish tone: ETF net creation of ₩1.86 trillion is substantial, and the positive futures basis (+2.59) indicates derivatives positioning is tilted long. Market program selling of −₩322 billion was dominated by non-arbitrage activity (−₩349 billion), consistent with tactical profit-taking rather than structural de-risking.

Despite the index strength, the macro-regime model keeps Korea at Neutral. Breadth has not caught up: only 58.4% of KOSPI constituents trade above their 50-day moving average and just 22.2% above the 200-day. A second confirmation trigger is required before the system upgrades Korea to Bull. Meanwhile, Brent crossing $100 (+5.2% 5-day) adds an inflationary dimension that could complicate the Bank of Korea’s rate path — a variable to monitor as commodity prices consolidate.

3. Today’s Quality Re-Rating Candidates

Today’s meta-screener evaluated 60 tickers across five evidence families: quality compounding fundamentals, institutional money flow, market surface activity, earnings expectations, and official DART catalysts. The editorial focus is finding good businesses where capital is entering and the market is beginning to reprice the story.

The top eight all carry four independent evidence families — a relatively rare alignment that the framework weights heavily over single-screener names. The dominant theme today is Korean brokerages and SK-group holding companies, with financial sector names occupying three of the top five slots.

Deep Dive: Top 3

SK스퀘어 (402340.KS) — Rank #1 | Score 24.5

SK Square is SK Group’s investment holding company, with SK Hynix as the anchor asset alongside semiconductor-adjacent and digital investments. Three signals converge: consensus estimates are on a clear upward revision track (composite z +2.72); foreign and quality-institutional buyers are absorbing a sizeable retail supply overhang — roughly ₩638 billion of retail selling absorbed over the window; and DART filings confirm an active capital return program, with a subsidiary share buyback decision followed by a share cancellation in August. The short interest is a clean 4.1%. For anyone tracking the AI memory demand and HBM capacity buildout narrative, SK Square offers holding-company exposure to SK Hynix with the additional potential of a narrowing discount-to-NAV trade. What to verify next: the pace of buyback execution and whether the NAV discount has shifted materially during the 7% index run.

삼성증권 (016360.KS) — Rank #2 | Score 23.7

Samsung Securities is one of Korea’s largest brokerages and wealth management platforms. It carries the strongest consensus revision z-score among today’s top-ranked names at +3.20, and both foreign buyers (ranked #527 in Kiwoom’s daily activity table) and quality domestic institutions (ranked #115) are simultaneously on the buy side — a co-occurrence the screener treats as a high-quality flow signal. Short interest is just 3.3%, leaving the stock with minimal technical overhang. DART filings over the lookback period are routine securities issuance reports with no red flags. The key analytical question: are analyst upgrades driven by cyclical brokerage revenue in a strong tape week, or by a more durable margin improvement story? In a week where KOSPI gained 7%, Korean brokerage revenue is likely tracking well — but durability of that tailwind is what distinguishes a re-rating candidate from a momentum trade.

미래에셋증권 (006800.KS) — Rank #3 | Score 22.5

Mirae Asset Securities is Korea’s largest independent brokerage and a significant global asset manager. Its consensus z-score of +3.44 is the highest in the full screened universe today, and a company IR event filed with DART on Sep 9 adds a near-term catalyst. However, an important caution applies: the short ratio sits at 18.7% — well into elevated territory where short-covering dynamics can distort price signals and add volatility. The flow picture is mixed: foreigners are net buyers, but foreign broker channels appear as a net selling conduit. This name leads the group on earnings-revision strength, but the short ratio warrants awareness before drawing conclusions from price action alone. Watch whether today’s IR produces revised forward guidance that anchors the consensus upgrade on a fundamental basis.
