For the 5GW purchase commitment already booked from OpenAI and the $500-billion-plus backlog to materialize, there has to be a building for those chips to go into, and money has to be raised to build it. This deal is NVIDIA directly manufacturing the precondition for its own revenue.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Comparing alternatives.&lt;/strong&gt; NVIDIA had four options. Expanding direct investment has already been done through the $30 billion equity stake; more would burn cash and deepen concentration. When the CLECs collapsed, Lucent wrote off $3.5 billion in bad debt, revenue fell 69%, its stock lost 99.3%, and it came to the brink of bankruptcy. The counterargument is also legitimate: Lucent&amp;rsquo;s customers were fledgling telecoms surviving on junk bonds, while NVIDIA&amp;rsquo;s top four customers have a combined annual operating cash flow of $451 billion. [Fact: cited comparative analysis] But that counterargument applies to hyperscalers, and the counterparty to this guarantee is not a hyperscaler but an unrated company losing $14 billion a year. There is a view that the most accurate axis for comparing 1999&amp;rsquo;s vendor financing with 2026&amp;rsquo;s is not absolute scale but &lt;strong&gt;the speed at which terms loosen&lt;/strong&gt;, and this evolution, from milestone investment to unconditional equity to debt guarantee, is precisely a measurement of that loosening.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The historical precedent whose structure most closely resembles this one is not Lucent but Motorola-Iridium. Motorola was simultaneously Iridium&amp;rsquo;s prime contractor, technology supplier, financing provider, and operational participant, with exposure of about $2.2 billion. Iridium filed Chapter 11 in 1999, and creditors sued Motorola for $3.7 billion. [Fact: historical data] The deeper a supplier reaches into a customer&amp;rsquo;s capital structure, the more the customer&amp;rsquo;s failure turns from a commercial loss into a matter of litigation and consolidated finance.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h2 id="4-success-scenario-and-failure-scenario"&gt;4. Success Scenario and Failure Scenario

NVIDIA realizes $350 billion of chip revenue, and the monetization gap ratio tracked in earlier pieces keeps narrowing. On this path, the deal is recorded in hindsight as &amp;ldquo;the cheapest insurance that locked in demand through 2028.&amp;rdquo;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The failure path.&lt;/strong&gt; If revenue growth enters a deceleration that halves every year, operations cannot carry the 2028-2029 lease payments and commitment calls. The moment the guarantee is drawn, NVIDIA&amp;rsquo;s contingent liability becomes a real one, the chip-financing bonds turn distressed, and the CDS moves from 82bp past triple digits. Credit contagion spreads to Oracle (half of whose RPO is OpenAI), CoreWeave, and the neoclouds, and the clock set up in the Cisco piece moves from mid-1999 into 2000. As Lucent&amp;rsquo;s precedent shows, the risk-reward on the stock along this path is brutal.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The middle path, deal collapse.&lt;/strong&gt; In the short run this reads as bad news, the debt market&amp;rsquo;s final rejection. But in the medium run it can read differently. If the commitment stack&amp;rsquo;s growth is forcibly decelerated, the risk of 2028 oversupply falls, buying time for the gap ratio&amp;rsquo;s denominator (revenue) to catch up with its numerator (spending). If what the credit market does is regulate the cycle, a collapse also means that regulation worked.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Which of the three it becomes is decided not by the contract but by measurement. The discriminating variable converges to one: &lt;strong&gt;how many multiples has OpenAI&amp;rsquo;s revenue grown to by the time it goes live in 2028?&lt;/strong&gt; At 4x from $25 billion ($100 billion), it is precarious; at 6-8x ($150-200 billion), it holds up.&lt;/p&gt;

It has to be funded at 25 times the largest project financing ever, and in a market where banks have retreated even from Oracle&amp;rsquo;s Michigan deal ($16.3 billion), leaving private credit to anchor it instead.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Third, accounting opacity around the contingent liability.&lt;/strong&gt; There is still no disclosure of how the $250 billion would sit on the balance sheet. If it follows the treatment of the existing program (credit derivative, fair-value changes routed through other income), earnings volatility rises; if it is footnoted as a contingent liability, the leverage exists off-screen. To borrow the phrasing from the Cisco piece, this is a state where the narrative of the strongest balance sheet in history coexists with a footnote worth 159% of equity.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Fourth, a reassessment of counterparty concentration.&lt;/strong&gt; S&amp;amp;P cut Oracle to one notch above junk because OpenAI accounts for half its contract backlog. That the same lens is now being applied to NVIDIA is what the 82bp CDS means. The ratings (Aa1, AA) remain untouched for now, but market prices move ahead of ratings.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Fifth, the historical base rate.&lt;/strong&gt; From the emergence of a vendor-financing signature to rupture has historically taken 12-18 months, with the sample of Lucent (-99.3%), Nortel (-99.8%), and Iridium (Chapter 11). The objection that the sample is only three is legitimate, but so is the fact that all three moved the same direction.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h2 id="6-conditions-that-would-dispel-the-concerns-six-strands"&gt;6. Conditions That Would Dispel the Concerns: Six Strands
&lt;/h2&gt;&lt;p&gt;Concerns don&amp;rsquo;t disappear through commentary. The following measurements are what would make them disappear.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Disclosure of the deal terms.&lt;/strong&gt; If the fee rate, warrants, collateral, and above all the staged commitment structure (800MW tranches rather than a single $250 billion block) are disclosed, and the pricing is at market level, this deal gets reclassified from a free guarantee to an underwriting business. Confirming a consideration structure, the way the existing $3.5 billion program received warrants, is the first step.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;OpenAI&amp;rsquo;s revenue beating its measured trajectory.&lt;/strong&gt; If quarterly growth above 80% holds and the year-end $40 billion forecast is confirmed in results, the probability of the 2028 6-8x path rises. Conversely, if growth ever halves even once, the deal&amp;rsquo;s premise is shaken.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The IPO getting done.&lt;/strong&gt; If the September-targeted offering is completed, the public equity raised shares the load on the bridge. The market itself agreeing to a $1 trillion-plus valuation is the single biggest boost to OpenAI&amp;rsquo;s credit.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Actual participation by third-party senior lenders.&lt;/strong&gt; Even with a guarantee in place, it is ultimately banks and the bond market that put up the money. Just as PIMCO anchored $18 billion in the Meta deal and $10 billion in Oracle&amp;rsquo;s Michigan deal, if named senior lenders show up on this deal under their own names, it gets judged as credit enhancement rather than credit delegation.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;NVIDIA&amp;rsquo;s disclosure.&lt;/strong&gt; Whether the 10-K&amp;rsquo;s guarantee note expands at late-August earnings, and whether the accounting treatment, cap, and trigger provisions are spelled out, is the direct antidote to the accounting-opacity concern.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Growth in demand outside OpenAI.&lt;/strong&gt; The larger the share of ACIE and sovereign demand grows within NVIDIA&amp;rsquo;s revenue (reaching the balance point discussed in the Alphabet piece), the less this guarantee&amp;rsquo;s failure would shake the whole company. If concentration eases, the guarantee becomes a strategy; if it deepens, the guarantee becomes a gamble.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p&gt;A natural question arises here. &lt;strong&gt;If OpenAI turns around, does that dispel every concern?&lt;/strong&gt; The answer is no. Broken down precisely, it looks like this.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;First, the definition of turnaround has to be split into three layers: revenue growth (already happening), an accounting swing to profit, and cash generation after capital expenditure and lease payments. Only the third definition is valid for this deal. As the Alphabet piece showed, cash after capex can be negative even when revenue grows 82%, and even if OpenAI reaches $200 billion in revenue, if commitment calls grow faster than that, external financing is still the party paying the lease bills. The resolution described below only operates once the word &amp;ldquo;turnaround&amp;rdquo; satisfies this third definition.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Assuming that definition is met, of the five concerns, &lt;strong&gt;two are substantially resolved, two remain, and one may actually grow&lt;/strong&gt;. The circular-financing concern (first) is resolved: the moment the end customer is paying with its own cash, the circle straightens into a line. The debt market&amp;rsquo;s rejection (second) is also resolved: sustained cash generation leads to a credit rating, and once OpenAI can borrow on its own credit the guarantee becomes unnecessary and simply expires. Ratings are a lagging indicator of performance, though, so this resolution comes with a lag. Accounting opacity (third), by contrast, can be resolved only by disclosure, not by a turnaround; as the probability of the contingent liability being drawn falls, its materiality shrinks, but the opacity itself remains. Counterparty concentration (fourth) also remains; a counterparty getting healthier and a deep dependence on a single counterparty are different problems, and success tends to become the very justification used for even greater concentration. And the historical base rate (fifth) is subtle. This particular deal&amp;rsquo;s concern is resolved once the guarantee expires undrawn, but &lt;strong&gt;successful vendor financing gets repeated and scaled up&lt;/strong&gt;. Lucent&amp;rsquo;s early vendor financing was successful too. Success breeding scale, and scale eventually breeding a failure case, was the actual sequence in 1999. If this deal succeeds, the same structure will likely be replicated next with Anthropic, then with the neoclouds, and the system-wide vendor-financing balance grows precisely through the success of individual deals. In short, what a turnaround dispels is &lt;strong&gt;this deal&amp;rsquo;s concern, not the structure&amp;rsquo;s concern&lt;/strong&gt;. [Inference: concern-condition mapping]&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h2 id="7-the-korea-angle-and-a-reading-table"&gt;7. The Korea Angle and a Reading Table
&lt;/h2&gt;&lt;p&gt;For Korean memory, this deal is not someone else&amp;rsquo;s problem. If the $350 billion of chip financing is executed, the credit quality of the HBM orders that go into those chips becomes tied to this guarantee structure. The single largest case for the monitoring frame set up in the Black Tuesday piece, the share of FCF-funded buyers versus financed buyers within the memory buyer mix, is exactly this deal. Galaxy&amp;rsquo;s 9.875% coupon and Oracle&amp;rsquo;s BBB- already show where that spectrum currently sits. If Ohio&amp;rsquo;s chips are bought through financed procurement, then the HBM revenue embedded in those chips is revenue that hinges not on the contract price but on the survival of the bridge. &lt;p&gt;The reading table looks like this.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;News of the deal being finalized or collapsing. Read a finalization by the level of terms disclosed, and a collapse as a signal of deceleration in the commitment stack.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;The guarantee-related disclosures in NVIDIA&amp;rsquo;s late-August earnings, and any OpenAI revenue commentary on the same call.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;OpenAI&amp;rsquo;s S-1 filing in September. This is the first time audited figures for revenue, losses, and commitments appear, the moment the denominator in the gap-ratio calculation shifts from estimate to measurement.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Whether Oracle is downgraded further, and the direction of NVIDIA&amp;rsquo;s 82bp CDS. This is the observation point for the principle that credit moves ahead of equities.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Microsoft&amp;rsquo;s equity-method line and this week&amp;rsquo;s Big Tech earnings. The first sample of how OpenAI&amp;rsquo;s losses arrive on a public company&amp;rsquo;s income statement.&lt;/li&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The discriminator is the same as it has been across this whole series. As long as token revenue grows faster than commitments, this guarantee is insurance that will never be drawn; the moment it breaks, it is a bill for 159% of equity.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;li&gt;The ingredients of death were three: a myth metric claiming traffic doubled every 100 days (the real rate was 2x/yr); the credit of marginal buyers purchasing equipment with junk bonds and vendor financing; and a revenue betrayal from unit-price deflation, where bandwidth prices fell 90% while revenue did not keep pace. The dark-fiber lit rate stayed under 5%.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;As the single number that separates the two eras, this piece proposes the &lt;strong&gt;monetization gap ratio (infrastructure spend divided by end AI revenue)&lt;/strong&gt;. In the dot-com era it held and widened at 6-10x before rupturing. In AI it was about 8x in 2024, about 6.5x in 2025, and about 4.6x in 2026, &lt;strong&gt;narrowing&lt;/strong&gt;. On this axis alone, it is 1996 right now.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;But look at commitments rather than execution and the picture flips. OpenAI&amp;rsquo;s purchase-commitment stack has grown roughly tenfold in eighteen months to about &lt;strong&gt;$1.4tn&lt;/strong&gt;, about 35x coverage against annualized revenue of roughly $40bn. NVIDIA vendor financing has just shown up on top of that. On this axis alone, it is 1999.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Auditing the evidence for agent labor replacement, the final leap in demand, splits into three propositions: replacement of specific job functions is proven (23% of H1 U.S. layoffs attributed to AI); replacement converting into profit is unproven (Gartner: no difference in returns between the heaviest and lightest layoff cohorts); and full replacement of knowledge work is still at the narrative stage. Even so, &lt;strong&gt;the narrow, already-proven wage pool alone leaves room for current token revenue to grow 3-5x&lt;/strong&gt;, which means 2026-2028 capex is justified by what is already proven.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;The overall verdict is an analog to mid-1999. Historically, the span from the arrival of vendor financing to rupture ran 12-18 months. But it cuts both ways: anyone who bought in mid-1999 still made large gains through March 2000, and the three physical indicators, utilization, the gap ratio, and elasticity, are all currently running opposite to the dot-com era.&lt;/li&gt;

The discriminant converges into one: as long as token revenue grows faster than committed capex, this is 1996; the moment it breaks, it is 1999.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;h2 id="1-correcting-the-folk-version-what-actually-killed-cisco"&gt;1. Correcting the Folk Version: What Actually Killed Cisco
&lt;/h2&gt;&lt;p&gt;End demand for the internet in 1999-2001 was real, and it was explosive. Users grew +50%/yr, traffic grew +100%/yr. The fiber laid down in that period went on to carry YouTube, Netflix, and the cloud. History has judged the underlying call, to put money into infrastructure, as correct. And yet Cisco shareholders lost 89% from the peak. [Fact: historical data]&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;What killed it was not demand. It was the following combination.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The myth metric.&lt;/strong&gt; The claim that traffic doubled every 100 days (traced to WorldCom-affiliated UUNET) became an industry-standard assumption, but actual traffic grew 2x/yr. An inflated demand metric pulled capex five to ten years ahead of real demand. [Fact: historical data] Even when demand is real, if the demand metric is fake, capital runs at the wrong speed.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The credit of the marginal buyer.&lt;/strong&gt; The entities placing incremental orders were not cash-generating carriers but competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs) buying equipment with junk bonds and vendor financing. Vendor financing reached roughly $25bn. When capital markets closed in 2000, these buyers&amp;rsquo; orders died instantly, and Cisco wrote off $2.2bn of inventory as revenue fell 30%. [Fact: historical data] Before the size of demand, it was &lt;strong&gt;the source of the money buying that demand&lt;/strong&gt; that collapsed first.&lt;/p&gt;

Fortune 500 revenue per employee of $687K and profit per employee of $68.7K are both at record highs, while headcount fell for a second straight year, down 301,000, even as total profit grew 12%. [Fact: Fortune tally] The decoupling of growth from employment has started showing up in official statistics.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Proposition 2: that replacement converts into profit. Unproven. This is the real finding of this audit.&lt;/strong&gt; Gartner surveyed 350 executives and found financial returns were essentially the same between the companies that cut the most and the companies that cut the least. [Fact: Gartner survey coverage] The layoffs are real; evidence that those layoffs improved margins is not there yet. That implies severance costs, redeployment, AI tooling spend, and quality degradation (Klarna declared AI equivalent to 700 people, then rehired some of them) are offsetting the savings. There is also an AI-washing bias at work here: because the market rewards AI-branded layoffs and punishes demand-driven ones, there is a strong incentive to rebrand pandemic-era overhiring corrections as AI. &lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Proposition 3: full replacement of knowledge work. Still at the narrative stage.&lt;/strong&gt; There is no disclosure evidence. It is a premise behind commitments dated 2029 and later, not something measured today.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;But the conclusion of this audit is that capex does not need Proposition 3 to be justified. Run the numbers on only the narrow pool that is already proven. The wage pool for global call centers, BPO, back-office work, and junior development support runs $1.5-2.5tn/yr. Converting even 10% of that into AI spend would be $150-250bn/yr, which sits &lt;strong&gt;inside an already-proven category offering 3-5x growth room&lt;/strong&gt; relative to current frontier-lab combined revenue (annualized $50-60bn). &lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Cumulative versus cumulative. Commitments are winning.&lt;/strong&gt; Look not at execution but at contracted future obligations and the picture flips. OpenAI&amp;rsquo;s purchase-commitment stack, Microsoft Azure at about $250bn, Oracle at about $300bn, Broadcom at about $350bn (10GW of custom accelerators), an NVIDIA investment-linked 10GW, AMD at 6GW, plus AWS and CoreWeave, adds up to roughly &lt;strong&gt;$1.4tn&lt;/strong&gt;, more than a tenfold increase in eighteen months. That is about 35x coverage against annualized revenue of roughly $40bn. If this commitment stack starts billing at $250bn/yr from 2027, revenue would need to grow sixfold within two years for operations to cover it. [Fact: sum of public reports] Two caveats apply. The $1.4tn figure is Sam Altman&amp;rsquo;s own cumulative commitment number running through the mid-2030s, and there are also reports that actual spending through 2030 is now being guided down to investors at around $600bn. [Fact: press] In other words, the 35x coverage figure is the worst-case definition; on the spending-guidance basis it comes down to roughly 15x. Under either definition, the fact remains that it is an order of magnitude larger than the flow figure of 4.6x. On this axis alone, it is 1999.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;And what is bridging the two curves is, precisely, outside financing. The Nvidia-OpenAI talks reported by the Wall Street Journal on Sunday are the newest span of that bridge. Over a 10GW data center campus in Pike County, Ohio (developed by SB Energy, a SoftBank affiliate, with phase one of about 800MW targeted for 2028), NVIDIA is reportedly in talks to guarantee &lt;strong&gt;about $250bn&lt;/strong&gt; of lease and construction debt and separately finance &lt;strong&gt;about $350bn&lt;/strong&gt; of chip purchases. The talks are still at an early stage, and the possibility that they fall apart was reported alongside the deal itself. [Fact: WSJ, Reuters, CNBC; talks stage] The structure is unambiguous once you see it: the seller guaranteeing both the financing to buy its own chips and the debt on the building those chips go into. That is vendor financing. NVIDIA&amp;rsquo;s investment in Naver, covered last week in &lt;a class="link" href="https://koreainvestinsights.com/post/sf-ai-declaration-950bn-korea-equity-deep-analysis-2026-07-26/" &gt;the $950 billion piece&lt;/a&gt;, belongs to the same family. The mere fact that vendor financing has shown up is itself the first lit signature on the Cisco clock.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The implications of this structure can be organized into three. 2026-2027 is arithmetic: executed capex is physically bottlenecked by power and chip supply chains and cannot easily grow faster than 50%/yr, while revenue is growing in the triple digits, so the gap keeps narrowing. The probability of rupture in this window is low. 2028-2029 is conditional: for coverage to normalize by the time the $1.4tn wave of commitments lands, revenue needs to keep compounding at 80-100%/yr for two to three more years. That is reachable if current growth decelerates gently, and a catastrophe if it halves every year. So &lt;strong&gt;the real binding constraint is neither revenue nor capex, but the bridge: the capital market&lt;/strong&gt;. As long as financing stays open, the two curves have time to converge; if it closes, the commitment stack collapses down to whatever portion was already funded. That is why the decline in bond demand coverage ratios (from about 5x early in the year to roughly 2x recently) and the spread of vendor financing are the early warning that leads the gap ratio itself.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h2 id="6-the-clock-verdict-what-year-is-it"&gt;6. The Clock Verdict: What Year Is It
&lt;/h2&gt;&lt;p&gt;Here is a table of the lit status of each Cisco-death signature.&lt;/p&gt;

Vendor financing has just arrived (historically a signal 12-18 months ahead of rupture), the remaining signatures are unlit, and in particular the three physical indicators, utilization, the gap ratio, and elasticity, are all currently running opposite to the dot-com pattern. But both sides of this analogy need to be held at once: those who bought in mid-1999 still made large gains through March 2000, and then gave it all back. If the analog holds, both the remaining upside and the difficulty of managing the exit are large.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The conditions under which this joins Cisco&amp;rsquo;s path are also worth stating plainly: if token revenue elasticity breaks below 1 (price declines beating usage growth), if the gap ratio reverses into widening (committed capex landing while revenue stalls), or if the credit contamination of the marginal buyer spreads into the hyperscaler core. None of the three has lit up yet, and all three are measurable on a quarterly basis.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h2 id="7-implications-for-korean-semiconductors-the-suppliers-fell-further"&gt;7. Implications for Korean Semiconductors: The Suppliers Fell Further
&lt;/h2&gt;&lt;p&gt;As is the convention for this series, we close with a Korea-specific angle. What Korean investors need to remember from the dot-com rupture is not the size of Cisco&amp;rsquo;s drawdown. It is the fact that &lt;strong&gt;the companies selling components to Cisco fell further than Cisco itself&lt;/strong&gt;. JDS Uniphase and Nortel, both optical-component suppliers, lost about 99% from their peaks. [Fact: historical data] A sequencing rupture is amplified as it travels up the value chain: intermediate-goods orders break before end demand does, and the inventory bullwhip swings hardest upstream. Cisco&amp;rsquo;s $2.2bn inventory write-off also meant those upstream suppliers&amp;rsquo; revenue had already vanished first.&lt;/p&gt;

Korea&amp;rsquo;s own entry into the circular-financing structure, covered last week (NVIDIA investing in Naver, Naver buying NVIDIA), means that door has now opened on the Korean side as well.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Both sides of long-term agreements (LTAs) also come into sharper focus under this frame. LTAs provide visibility on price and volume, but Cisco, too, had a fat order backlog in 2000, and by 2001 that backlog ended in cancellations and write-offs. &lt;strong&gt;What an LTA protects is the price in a world where the counterparty&amp;rsquo;s ability to pay holds up; it does not protect that world itself.&lt;/strong&gt; When SK Hynix Chairman Chey Tae-won named a break in AI funding supply as his top concern over a five-year horizon, he was pointing precisely at this structure.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The practical conclusion is simple. Add two indicators to the DRAM contract price that has long been the memory investor&amp;rsquo;s discriminant: the quarterly direction of the monetization gap ratio, and the split between FCF buyers and financed buyers within memory&amp;rsquo;s end-buyer mix. While the first two stay healthy, a correction is an opportunity; when all three turn negative together, that is when it becomes 1999.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h2 id="8-the-gauge-indicators-to-put-on-the-gate"&gt;8. The Gauge: Indicators to Put on the Gate
&lt;/h2&gt;&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The quarterly monetization gap ratio.&lt;/strong&gt; Lab and cloud AI revenue against AI capex. Quarterly tracking starts with this earnings season. The next quarter&amp;rsquo;s verdict hinges on whether the flow ratio (AI revenue acceleration against the increment in capex guidance) stays above 1 in Microsoft&amp;rsquo;s results, due 06:30 KST on July 30, and Amazon&amp;rsquo;s, due 06:00 KST on July 31.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Measured revenue elasticity.&lt;/strong&gt; Track token unit price and token revenue together. As long as revenue keeps growing despite falling unit prices, this stays on a different path from bandwidth&amp;rsquo;s.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The next round of Gartner-style layoff-versus-returns surveys.&lt;/strong&gt; This is the verdict indicator for Proposition 2 (replacement converting into profit). If this one breaks, wage-pool arithmetic crosses over into the income statement.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Quantified disclosure of agentic revenue.&lt;/strong&gt; Whether Salesforce Agentforce-type contract value starts being disclosed in quantified form this call season. Also track Challenger&amp;rsquo;s AI-attributed layoff share monthly in parallel.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The condition of the bridge.&lt;/strong&gt; AI credit spreads, bond demand coverage ratios, and Microsoft&amp;rsquo;s equity-method line (which reflects OpenAI&amp;rsquo;s P&amp;amp;L). Since this piece&amp;rsquo;s conclusion is that the pace of vendor-financing spread is the early warning that leads the gap ratio itself, the coverage on the next hyperscaler bond deal is the earliest signal.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The quality of the backlog.&lt;/strong&gt; The more the share of new commitments from outside the labs (enterprise, sovereign) grows, the more the credit quality of the commitment stack improves.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The discriminant converges into one. &lt;strong&gt;As long as token revenue grows faster than committed capex, this is 1996; the moment it breaks, it is 1999.&lt;/strong&gt; And until that verdict is in, the discriminant for Korean memory remains, unchanged, the DRAM contract price and the credit quality of the buyer mix.&lt;/p&gt;
